Sacred Heart University's Habitat for Humanity chapter will be sending 70 members consisting of students and faculty to Forth Smith, Arkansas, New Bern, North Carolina, Wilmington, North Carolina, and Ashland, Virgina to participate in the Habitat Collegiate Challenge during Spring Break from March 3 - 10, 2019. SHU students and faculty will work alongside Habitat homeowners to help rebuild these areas that were devastatingly impacted by Hurricane Florence earlier this year and those in low income areas to provide safe and affordable housing. In the past, students have helped lay foundation, raise walls, paint, install windows and even shingle roofs. During this experience, the students trade in their backpacks and exchange them for tool belts to broaden their perspective on what it means to serve.
Throughout the year, SHU Habitat for Humanity host events to raise awareness and support for the Bridgeport community, however those students and faculty volunteering their time for the Collegiate Challenge are required to fund their own travel expenses. The total out of pocket cost for the group is $10,000, which presents a signifcant burden. Every dollar donated through this campagin will directly offset the travel expenses for these students and faculty members.
We hope that alumni, family, and friends will consider supporting our group of dedicated students and faculty and allow them to make a difference in so many communities around the country.
We appreciate your encouragement and generosity, thank you!
With Love,
The Campus Chapter of Sacred Heart Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit that works around the world to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope. Habitat’s vision is a world where everyone has a safe and affordable place to call home. Our Sacred Heart University Habitat Chapter works diligently throughout the year to help this vision come true. Through canning, fundraisers, workdays, events on campus and in the community we raise awareness and support for decent and affordable housing right here in Bridgeport through our partnership with Coastal Fairfield County Habitat for Humanity.
Should this campaign exceed goal, all funds will be held in reserve for future SHU Habitat for Humanity service project trips.
